2003 U.S. National Wushu Team Trials
Taolu Selection Criteria

United States of America Wushu-Kungfu Federation, Inc. (USAWKF)Qualifications: Competitors must be: a) a citizen of the United States of America, b) in good health, c) member of good standing of the USAWKF, d) if selected, must be able to compete at the 7th World Wushu Championships in Macao, China, in November of 2003.
Competition Objectives:
Selection of U.S. National Wushu Team members will be comprised of an A team, which will consist of four men and four women, a B team (alternates) which will also consist of four men and four women, and a C team (alternates) of four men and four women. The US National Wushu Team (A Team) selected will represent the United States of America at the 7th World Wushu Championships, which will be held in Macao, China in November of 2003. The top 8 male and female athletes (A & B Team) will compete at the 5th Pan American Wushu Championships, which will be held in Virginia, USA in 2004.Date and Venue:
2003 United States Wushu Team Trials Competition will be held on July 26th - 27th, 2003 at Northern Virginia Community College -- Annandale Campus.Competition categories:
Bare hand:
Changquan (New), Nanquan, and Taijiquan.Short weapon:
Broadsword (New), Straightsword (New), Nandao, and Taiji Sword.Long weapon:
Spear (New), Staff (New), Nangun.Selection criteria:
Each competitor shall select a total of three events: one selection from barehand, short weapon, and long weapon respectively. Each competitor selects ONLY one event from each competition category. No more than 3 events (barehand, short weapon, and long weapon) will be allowed.Rules of Competition:
The competitions will be conducted in accordance with the "1999 Rules for International Wushu Competition" published by the International Wushu Federation (IWuF).Placement and Scoring:
Men:
A Team: 1st to 4th place winners
B Team: 5th to 8th place winners
C Team: 9th to 12th place winnersWomen:
A Team: 1st to 4th place winners
B Team: 5th to 8th place winners
C Team: 9th to 12th place winnersThe total of all three events scores of bare hand, short weapon and long weapon will be used to determine the placements (1st through 12th). In the event of a tied score, the competitor who ranked first in more events shall be placed higher. If the tie still remains, the competitor who placed second in more events shall be placed higher. In case of an equal ranking in all individual events, the following tie-breaking procedure will be used:
- The competitor whose mean value of the two invalid scores (the highest and lowest scores) from all 3 events comes closer to the average of the valid scores shall be placed higher.
- If a tie still remains, the competitor with a higher mean value of the two invalid scores shall be placed higher.
- If the tie still remains, the competitor whose lower invalid score is higher shall be placed higher.
- Only if the 4th and 5th place winners are still unable to break the tie, the selection committee will randomly select a single event out of the 3 categories for the athletes to compete. The winner will be declared the 4th place winner and the loser the 5th place winner.
