5th Pan American Wushu Championships Rules & Regulations
The 5th Pan American Wushu Championships (5th PAWC) will be organized by USAWKF this year. The event will be held at the Northern Virginia Community College--Annadale Campus, Annadale, Virginia, USA on July 10 - 11, 2004.
Pan American Wushu Federation (PAWF) held its first championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1996. Since then, championships have been conducted in Toronto, Canada, Manaus, Brazil, and Merida, Venezuela. During the 4th PAWC in Merida, Venezuela, USAWKF successfully bid to be the host of the 5th PAWC. This biennial event is being held for the first time in the United States. USAWKF has selected the OMei Wushu Center to be the local organizer of the Championships. Ms. Lu Xiaolin, Vice President of USAWKF and President of OMei Wushu Center, will be the chairperson of the Organizing Committee of this continental event.
As an official continental championship of PAWF, only members are invited to participate. Below are the rules and regulations of the competition.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND RULES
1. DATE AND PLACE
The competition for the 5th Pan American Wushu Championships will be held from July 10 – July 11, 2004 at the Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia, USA

Competitions will include men and women Taolu (bare hand and weapon forms) and men and women Sanshou (full contact fighting)
4. PARTICIPATION ELIGIBILITY
a. Invitations will be sent to Pan American Wushu Federation (PAWF) members, only.
b. If any nation or region has more than one Wushu organization, it will only recognize the one affiliated to PAWF.
c. The PAWF will advise the Organizing Committee at least 60 days before the event if there are/will be new members accepted into PAWF. This will allow the Organizing Committee time to send invitations to the new members.
5. REGISTRATION FEE
Registration fee will be $75 per athlete for the competition. Officials and athletes are responsible for their own accommodations and food. Local transportation from the hotel to the competition venue will be provided at no cost. Please make checks payable to O-Mei Wushu Center. Please note that this event is organized by O-Mei Wushu Center on behalf of USAWKF.
6. REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The Registration Deadline for all the teams and athletes must be sent by mail or fax to USAWKF by June 10, 2004. The attached registration forms must be completed along with two passport size photos.

Please make your reservations to Washington-Dulles Airport. The hotel and competition venues are about 30 minutes. Pickups will be provided for the above airport only. Teams must send the travel itineraries to the Organizing Committee by June 30th, 2004. Travel itinerary information must be completed as indicated on the registration form to enable the Organizing Committee to provide the airport pick-up service efficiently for the participants.

9. DRAW LOTS CEREMONY
The Draw Lots Ceremony, for Sanshou only, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday July 9th. at the Comfort Inn University Center. The ceremony will be presided over by representatives of the PAWF. Each team may send two representatives to attend the ceremony. The PAWF Technical Committee will draw on behalf of teams that are unable to send a representative.

11. TAOLU COMPETITIONS
The following 10 events are for men and women. Only the new compulsory routines will be allowed in the competition events
1. Chang Quan new routine (Longfist)
2. Nan Quan (Southern Form)
3. Taiji Quan (Taiji Form)
4. Daoshu new routine (Broadsword)
5. Jianshu new routine (Straightsword)
6. Nandao (Southern Broadsword)
7. Taiji Jian (Taiji Straightsword)
8. Qiangshu new routine (Spear)
9. Gunshu new routine (Long staff)
10. Nangun (Southern Long Staff)
12. PARTICIPANTS (TAOLU)
Each Member Association of PAWF may send a team of no more than 8 male athletes and 8 female athletes with a team leader, coach and judges. A competitor may enter a maximum of two (2) competition events. Only compulsory routines approved by IWUF will be permitted during the competition. If any optional routine is performed, no score will be given.
13. REGULATIONS
The competitions will be conducted in accordance with IWUF regulations. In the event of a dispute in the interpretation of the rules the English text shall prevail. The power of interpretation of the rules rests solely within the PAWF.
14. COSTUMES AND EQUIPMENT
Competitors shall wear Wushu competition costumes in compliance with the Rules during all competitions.
All equipment and facilities at the competition and training sites must be in conformity with the Rules.
Competitors shall bring their own equipment for their respective events in accordance with the Rules.15. ARBITRATION
The PAWF will establish an Arbitration Committee for the purpose of resolving disputes of competitions. A US $100 non-refundable fee and a written complaint must be submitted to the Arbitration Committee within one hour of the completion of the event. However prior to the completion of the competition, the athlete or the coach must inform the Chief Judge that a complaint will be filed. Decisions made by the Arbitration Committee are considered final.

PARTICIPANTS (SANSHOU)
- Each member of PAWF can register 7 female ahtletes and 11 male athletes with only one athlete per weight category.
- The athletes must be in between 18 and 35 years old.
- At registration all Sanshou competitors must present a valid health certificate issued by a qualified medical doctor. The certificate must be no older than 30 days and must clearly state that the competitor is in good heath and able to compete.
18. ITEMS TO BRING
The delegation of each country/region must bring the following:
1. 3 National flags measuring 1x 2 m
2. Your respective National Anthem (can be on tape but CD is preferable)
3. Copies of the final registration form
