THE 1st WORLD TRADITIONAL WUSHU FESTIVAL REGULATIONS

The 1st World Traditional Wushu Festival (Championships) that is organized by the IWUF will be held in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China from October 16-20, 2004.

USAWKF is planning to send several teams to participate in the above event. The USAWKF will develop a team trial criteria and host more than one team trial to select qualified athletes. More details regarding the team trials will be announced soon. Interest parties please contact Randy Li, USAWKF Vice President and Chairman of Traditional Committee at wing-chun@usa.net.

1. DATE AND PLACE

The 1st World Traditional Wushu Festival will be held from October 16 to 20, 2004 in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China.

Chinese Wushu Association

3. ORGANIZERS

Sports Bureau of Henan Province
People’s Municipal Government of Zhengzhou City

4. PARTICIPANTS

a. Member associations of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF)

b. Those wushu groups which have been recognized by the member associations of IWUF.

c. Those wushu groups located in the countries or regions not affiliated to IWUF.

5. COMPETITION EVENTS

a. Bare-handed routine

b. Apparatus

c. Dual Event

d. Group Event

6. PARTICIPATION METHODS

1) There is no limit to the number of participating teams of every country or region. Each team shall be composed of a maximum of fifteen (15) persons. Those who want to enter more than 15 are kindly requested to contact the IWUF Secretariat.

2) Each team may at most enter 2 group events. (There shall be no repetition entry for the same event.) Scores shall not be recorded if the participants are below 4 people.

3) Each participating athlete may enter at most 2 individual events (bare-handed routine, or apparatus. There shall be no repetition entry for the same kind of bare-hand routine), together with the dual events and group events.

4) Each team may enter only for one (1) dual event. Each group is limited to 3 persons. Male and female athletes can be mixed.

5) The individual events are divided by ages

Group A: below age 16 (including 16)
Group B: age 17-29
Group C: age 30-44
Group D: age 45-55
Group E: age 56-65
Group F: above age 66 (including 66)
Groups whose athletes are less than 5 persons shall be included into the groups ahead.

7. RELEVANT REQUIREMENTS

1) The competition will adopt the "Rules for International Taolu Competition" endorsed by IWUF in 1999.

2) Time limit

a. Bare-handed and Apparatus routines shall be from 50 seconds to 1 minute, 30 seconds.

b. Taijiquan shall be 4-6 minutes; Taiji Apparatus Routine shall be 3-4 minutes. And background music shall be chosen by the competitor to suit the choreography of the routine.

c. Dual Events shall be from 50 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds.

d. Group event shall be 3-4 minutes. And background music shall be chosen to suit the choreography of the routine.

8. PLACING AND AWARDS

1) Male and female athletes are awarded separately.

2) The top three places of each age group will be awarded.

9. ENTRY AND REGISTRATION

1) Preliminary Entry: The duly completed Preliminary Entry Form (2 copies in A4 format) must reach the IWUF Secretariat and the Organizing Committee by mail or fax no later than July 30, 2004.

2) Port of entry and transportation itinerary

a. The Organizing Committee will give reception at the Port Zhengzhou City.

b. Zhengzhou City can be reached via Hongkong, Macao by flight or train.

c. There are non-stop flight and train to Zhengzhou City from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Please inform the Organizing Committee the date of your arrival, and flight or train detail, so that the transportation will be arranged.

10. FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

1) Each participating team shall be responsible for their spending.

2) Each team member is charged $45 per day (double room in three star hotel) or $60 (single room in three star hotel), including board, lodging, local transportation, competition, activity, banquets and opening and closing ceremonies.

3)Teams of the IWUF member associations are waived of the application fee.

4)Teams from non-IWUF member associations shall submit $10 entry fee per head.

5) Countries or regions whose participating athletes exceed 20 persons can recommend one judge (who has officiated more than 3 wushu competitions in his or her country or region). And the expenses shall be responsible by themselves. (The cost is the same as that of the athletes.)

6) Participating teams shall be responsible for their own life insurance.

12. The matters uncovered in this regulation will be notified in due course.
